Profile recently held a Face to Face interview with Rob Noel, Chief Executive of Landsec, sponsored by Hogan Lovells. The interview by Damian Wild, Editor of EG, formed the opening event for the EG London Development Summit. Landsec is currently the largest listed property company in the UK, with over a million people visiting their buildings every day. Rob discussed the importance of designing office buildings to future proof them for at least ten years, as the way we work has completely evolved in recent years. For example, in 2010 Landsec was speculatively planning over 3 million sq ft of office space, some of which is still coming to the market.
Rob also detailed the changing nature of retail in the UK. In 2007, Landsec had 30 shopping centres outside London and they now have seven, due to the rapid emergence of multi channel retail. He also talked about the current market uncertainty with Brexit and warned that leaving the UK could in reality take a long time.
Other topics ranged from hints that Landsec could possibly move into residential in the future and the growing importance off site manufacturing, with the way we are building constantly evolving.
